A forty minute drive west of Budapest, off the motorway to Vienna, Pannonia Golf & Country Club extends on the grounds of a large estate built around 1845 by the Hungarian branch of the Habsburg dynasty - the approach to the country club is through a beautiful alley of stately trees. The entire project was designed as a place of art and culture at the outskirts of Budapest and is now acknowledged as one of the foremost sports facility in the country.
The 18 hole championship course was co-designed by reputed Canadian architect Doug Carrick and his Austrian colleague Hans Georg Erhardt. The Pannonia Golf & Country Club offers many facilities other than golf, including a kindergarten, playgrounds, two tennis courts and a beautiful swimming lake. The quality of the country club is up to the highest standards and the clubhouse is set in the 180-year old greenhouse that once belonged to the rulers of the country, who run the estate as a country residence.

North of the capital, the Magyar Golf Club, also known as Budapest Golfpark & Country Club enjoys a beautiful location in Kisoroszi, a picturesque village on the northernmost tip of Szentendre Island, on the Danube river. The golf course was redesigned by Danny Hajnal in 1991, the architect of another excellent course in the country at European Lakes (see individual entry). It presents two contrasting nines. While the front nine is tree lined and has a parkland aspect, the back nine is longer and more open, with wider fairways and well bunkered greens. Birdland Golf & Country Club is located in Bukfurdo, one of Hungary's most famous spa resort near the ancient town of Szombathely on the Austrian border. Birdland extends on the 200 acre estate of Szombathely Palace, a baroque mansion built in the 17th century by the Count Szapary in the lush countryside of the Vas county, where the last slopes of the Alps die out into the vast expanses of the Pannonian plain. The central piece of the estate is the Championship course, designed by reputed Austrian architects Gunther & Gerold Hauser. One of the layout's biggest asset is the seventeen acre expanse of lakes and ponds, sanctuary for many species of birds, hence the club's name "Birdland". The present championship course will extended to 27 holes by the construction of nine new holes, due to be inaugurated in 2004. This tournament venue is complemented by a Par-3 nine hole executive course, a nine hole target course and state-of-the-art practice facilities. The Golf Academy offers various training programmes for both advanced players and beginners, wishing to obtain course proficiency or their first handicap. Additionally, a new Golf & Tennis Academy will be inaugurated in 2004, as well as an 18 hole floodlit putting green.
