Donald Harradine turned what was once a paddy field
into a golfing oasis planted with thousand of trees
and making a strategic use of the original irrigation
ditches and lakes to create natural water hazards.
The fairways are lined by towering eucalyptus, poplars,
pines and birch trees, stretching through a sixty
acre nature preserve teeming with birds and wild life.
Harradine built a challenging layout tantalising of
rewards yet penal to failure. There is not one weak
hole here, but there are several great ones and all
have their own challenge to be tackled in a specific
way. The Penncross greens are bent with subtle burrows
and often steep slopes.
The tree lined fairways, the bunkering and the several
lakes, ditches and meandering streams make for as
many hazards as well as providing an attractive environment
against the backdrop of lush, wooded hills. There
are three set of tees to provide a convenient level
of play for all handicaps. An enchanting layout in
a no less enchanting and mythical place cherished
by Ulysses himself!

At the heart of the resort, Porto Carras golf course
enjoys beautiful views over the blue waters of the
Aegean Sea and the surrounding hills covered with
vineyards and fragrant almond, olive, citrus and pine
groves. Designed by Geoffrey S. Cornish and William
G. Robinson back in 1975, the course has been completely
upgraded and reshaped in 2002. The front nine is quite
demanding, with several doglegs and numerous bunkers,
while the back nine presents three large water hazards
coming very much in play on most of the holes. Buggies
are available, although not really necessary as the
course is easy to walk.
The golf course is complemented by extensive practice
facilities, the Porto Carras Golf Academy and a friendly
and cosmopolitan clubhouse. As one of the country's
only five 18 hole golf courses, Porto Carras has been
very active in promoting golf in the country as well
as introducing locals to the game through the Porto
Carras Golf Academy. Situated on the 40th Parallel,
the resort enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate allowing
perfect playing conditions year round.
