The Dolina Kardinala Golf & Country Club, Croatia brand new and only 18 hole golf course, has recently opened in Krasic, twenty miles from Zagreb near the town of Karlovac. In an idyllic and untouched landscape, amidst centuries old forest, the club is located in the immediate vicinity of Cardinal Stepinac's birthplace. Dolina Kardinala means "Valley of the Cardinals" as the region was the birthplace of three famous cardinals, the most famous of the three being Stepinac, a reputed Croatian patriot of the post World War II period.
When the turmoil of the partition of the former Yugoslav Federation ended and true independence came to Croatia in 1995, Matej Majic and his two business partners joined forces to build Croatia first and only true Golf & Country Club. After purchasing 75 hectares (185 acres) in small parcels from several different owners, Majic and company spared little expense constructing an immaculately groomed facility which include an 18 hole course by Swan Golf Designs, a nine hole par 3 course, a 300-yard long practice range, a chipping area and two practice greens as well as a beautiful clubhouse sited in an historic building.

The building of a golf course at Brioni dates back to the 1920's and featured a nine hole layout at that time. The golf course was extended to 18 holes in the 1930's by the famous British architect Tom Simpson and his American colleague G.C. Thomas. The facility was designed to meet the needs of the royal families and the European aristocracy visiting the island - more than a crowned head have walked on its fairways. But the layout felt into disrepair after World War II due to the lack of interest from the communist regime for this sport, although Tito did much to bring back the island to its former gloss. Today, nine holes have been fully restored and put back into play, extending along the idyllic shores of the Adriatic and through the lush vegetation and mature trees of the island.
